2025 Inaugural Recipient

 Dr. Richard Channick is Professor of Medicine at the Saul Brandman Endowed Chair in Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. He serves as Co-Director of the Pulmonary Vascular Disease Program and Director of the Acute and Chronic Thromboembolic Disease Program at UCLA Medical Center.

Richard N. Channick, MDDr. Channick earned his medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He completed his residency and served as Chief Resident at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, followed by a fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). During his 20-year tenure at UCSD, he was instrumental in building its pulmonary vascular program.

From 2009 to 2018, Dr. Channick practiced at Massachusetts General Hospital and served as faculty at Harvard Medical School, where he established a premier Pulmonary Vascular Program. He joined UCLA in September 2018, where he currently directs the Acute and Chronic Thromboembolic Disease Program.

A prolific contributor to the field, Dr. Channick has authored over 200 original articles, book chapters, and reviews, with a focus on pulmonary hypertension and pulmonary embolism. He has held numerous leadership roles in national and international organizations, including serving on the American Thoracic Society’s Pulmonary Circulation Program Committee, the American College of Chest Physicians’ Pulmonary Vascular Disease Network Steering Committee, and as past Chair of the Pulmonary Hypertension Association’s Scientific Leadership Committee. He is also a co-founder and past President of the Pulmonary Embolism Response Team (PERT) Consortium.

Dr. Channick has served on the steering committees of multiple pivotal clinical trials and is a frequent lecturer at national and international scientific meetings.
