The Council will consist of 6 inaugural trainees in 2024, and expand to 12 trainees in 2025, recruiting 6 new members. Terms are two years in length and staggered so that each year half the council members are new, while the other half are in their second year of service. Faculty mentors from PERT Consortium™ leadership will oversee council operations and provide mentorship to trainees. A chairperson will be selected annually.

• Planning and execution of PERT Bootcamp, an annual pre-meeting course for physicians in training
• Development of trainee-specific articles and announcements for PERTinent Updates and The PERT Consortium™ website
• Foster and promote an environment of diversity, equity, and inclusion for those on the Council and for trainee members of The Consortium
• Develop events including networking and mentorship opportunities for trainees
• Planning and development of PERT Webinars and PERTcast Podcasts
• Develop content and engage the medical community on social media both during the year and during the PERT Annual Meeting
• Service on other PERT Committees

• Identify and create solutions for issues that impact trainees (inter-disciplinary collaboration, mentorship, research opportunities, etc.)
• Represent trainees and trainees needs (from various clinical backgrounds and including medical students, residents, fellows, graduate students, and post-docs) to PERT Consortium leadership.
• Act as a liaison to each PERT Committee (excluding Finance and Governance)
• Organize PERT Bootcamp and expand to other trainee events at the PERT Annual Meeting in cooperation with the Program Committee and Council Mentors.
• Recruitment/retention of trainees to The PERT Consortium™ to serve on Committees as faculty
• Develop diversity-centered research with faculty mentorship from PERT leadership

• Gain leadership experience through Council operations and collaboration with PERT Committees, Executive Committee, and Board of Directors.
• Gain project management skills through development of educational programs.
• Network with Council members, PERT Committee Members, and Executive leadership.
• Gain a deeper understanding of VTE and the science underway to advance the field.
• Professional development in cultural responsiveness.
• Recognition on The PERT Consortium™ website and at the Annual Meeting.
• Opportunities to present at the PERT Annual Meeting and participate as Course Planners for the PERT Annual Meeting and Bootcamp.
• Opportunities to participate in PERT-sponsored research.

The council meets via video conference call once a month and in-person twice a year to develop recommendations alongside PERT Consortium leadership. Members receive benefits for travel and accommodations to attend The PERT Consortium™ Annual Meeting.

Trainees with a strong interest in VTE who exhibit leadership qualities, organizational skills, and are role models for their peers are encouraged to apply.

Eligible applicants must be entering or continuing in a training program through the July 2024 - June 2025 academic year. Medical students, pharmacy students, and PhD students with strong interest, or a research focus in VTE are also eligible.

Trainees in any year of medical school, any year of residency, and fellows not in their final year of training are eligible. Trainees completing an advanced fellowship or a second fellowship are eligible.

Applicants who are in the same institution as a first year Trainee Council member will not be eligible. Two people from the same institution cannot serve on the Council at the same time.
